At 5:12 am, April 18, 1906, the ground beneath San Francisco began to shake.  The result was devastation on a massive scale, with a loss of life that is still being debated today.  But among the survivors were a handful of homes, businesses, and government buildings.  As I spend time at these amazing structures, I always wish their walls could talk.  I have no doubt that their stories of life and death, joy and pain, celebration and tribute would fascinate us all as much as their beauty does.
